MEETING WITH LAURA
documentation
The project does not necessarily have to be technical.
Ask yourself what the meaning is of the project.

/ Previous Project: The Glove
Feeling WIFI.We hear about it a lot, but how do you actually feel it - that was meaningful.
Making the invisible visible.
The relation between people.

/ why would we want to test the senses?
/ what is the reason behind this, and does it have a meaning?
/ what is the meaning?

/ make something that makes you enthusiastic
/which step in the research you got most enthusiastic, enthusiasm goes from relevance
/ what is the most feasible idea?
/ look back at the research you've already done
/ what do you want to communicate at the final presentation?
/ what is more relevant? Final product-research? Exhibitioning all prototypes?
TIPS:
What if you can move objects without touching them? For example, by your own electrical pulses. We use it all the time for our touchscreens. One of my ideas that caught my attention was making objects move without touching them. A good example of this is the Lotus Dome by Studio Roosegaarde. This design creates interaction by using sensors and body heat. The foil of the Lotus Dome is triggered by human movement. This is something I want to study more deeply.

There are nice experiments with static electricity. You can make objects move by using electrical energy. You can't see this static energy, but you can generate it yourself. Think of concepts like: 'gravity', 'balance', 'magnetic' and 'static'.

Friction causes a static negative charge. If these electrical particles can't flow away to the earth, the energy content is so high that your hair literally stands right up. The discharge then occurs when positively charged particles are touched, for example in the carpet, clothing, metal or even on the cat. And that makes you feel like a shock, or sometimes even quite a shock, with a spark.

MAKING THE CONCEPT VISABLE

Key notes from the meeting:
-"Escape room for your senses: Do it more sophisticated
- Connect different senses
-Create a story - make a narrative that connects the obstacles
-Associate 'The Obstacle Path' further; theme park, escape room, a maze etc.
-Main issue with the idea as of now: too rational; make it more intuitive
-Bring in something 'unexpected' in The Obstacle Path
-Think of the mind and the body as one - not as two separates

Questions to ask ourselves in the further work;
- "How can we unite the body and the mind?"
- "How can we make people experience that they are not superior"

We are working with different approaches in the group. In short:
- Asle is focusing on the framework. He wants a narrative for the making/wants it to makes sense at an instant and before making.
- Neza wants the end result to make sense and be actual useful but also like just to get started making.
- Melissa is more into making stuff and then figuring out the context of the creation afterwards.

These approaches were spoken of openly during our meeting with Rebecca and she suggested that we spend at least one week making prototypes of all the sense related ideas that we had and then afterwards think of how to combine or develop further on these creations.

- Specifically Asle has to create without thinking of the context to make his creations more wild and unexpected
- Melissa on the other hand was very fond of a specific creation based on static electricity. Her task was to experiment with the possibilities static electricity but also to come up with a way of adapting into a narrative/framework.
- Neza is going to work within smaller experiments that can make you realise human body is not superior anymore? Maybe create an experience from a perspective of a tick?

Therefor our plan for week 5 is very clear: To make something that is cool and has to do with senses

UMWELT 'OBJECT'?
/ Thinking about how to incorporate the umwelt and the perception of another species into small experiments was quite a struggle.
/ But instead of only rethinking about the options I also did a bit further research and finding these inspiring projects has brought new ideas.
/ Idea which appeared behind this pictures is to have your senses blocked by another element which is interfering with your usual 5 senses.
/ So maybe wearing some object on your head which would cover your sight, smell and extra sound inside the object, would reflect in an extra feel oriented situation which would show how certain animals approach the situation.
/ Maybe the object could lead you through the room and in a way that animals perceive the situation.
/ Some other way would be to have a sensor or a vibrator on your skin which would let you know about the temperature or about the magnetic fields around you and you should orient yourself through usage of that only.
